Spanish Flu of 1918 & COVID-19 - Past & Present ?

" Aisa mahamari Na Pehle Dekha Na Kabhi Suna ”

Many of us might have come across this statement. But is it TRUE?
The answer is NO!

Today I am going to aware you regarding a pandemic that the world faced, in which the number of deaths is more than that happened in World War I.

I hope this gives you hope -  Time Heals Everything

People are tensed as they are losing their job; some are stressed as they are not paid for their work- these people are reviewing the thought of how to start over again. Final year students are worried because they can’t envision how they will manage to get a job, their mind keeps pondering over the thoughts whether there will be any campus placements, whether the company will hire fresher. The students who took education loans are worried thinking about how they will clear the loans if they don’t get a job. Some people are afraid to go out, businessmen are afraid to start their business because small negligence regarding safety will make them pay heavily, a single COVID positive person can spread the virus to many others and the chain reaction will continue.

These thoughts are very normal, you are not alone thinking, so relax, and don’t panic.

We have already dealt with the worst pandemic, we could overcome it then, we can overcome it now. In the era of 1918, there came a pandemic named- SPANISH FLU, this is still the deadliest pandemic the world has ever faced. Although this flu was caused by the H1N1 virus, until the 1930s no proof was obtained.  The disease was also known as the influenza virus. It affected around 27% i.e. approximately 1.8 billion of the world population. The death toll was estimated to 50 million people in less than a year and as some cases were not reported; it is also assumed that the toll could also be 100 million.

It was called Spanish Flu, as it was Spain’s Newspaper agencies, which started reporting regarding this disease. Initially, this flu was observed in America Mid West, but there is no confirmation regarding the origin, some say it was first seen in World War I servicemen- UK troops. This virus was dangerous because it showed no symptoms for this disease; it was like the regular flu or had symptoms of pneumonia.

The ultimate solution accepted then to get rid of the pandemic was quarantine, isolation, physical distancing, & public hygiene. People stayed at home to be safe. This disease was vulnerable to young adults, which was a surprise was the researchers as usually, the diseases are vulnerable to the very young and the very adults.

This Influenza virus started in 1918 and disappeared by 1920, with no vaccination, developed. Till now there are no details regarding the development of a vaccine, also due to the World War and poor record-keeping, the record of this flu was not given much importance- reason why it is also called Forgotten Flu.

So, I hope I enlightened you with the world’s worst pandemic. Seeing history, it can be said the scenario will become better. Science and technology have advanced, people are educated, so the cure to this disease will be invented soon, as immense research is going on day and night. The only ray of hope until the discovery of the COVID19 vaccine is- SOCIAL DISTANCING.

I am attaching a small video made by me to aware you of some facts.

Hope you Stay Safe and Healthy.
